"War, death, the economy, I feel helpless David"

Before my weekly XM radio show this week, we received an email that started like this, "War, death, the economy, I feel helpless David".

The email went on to say that even though he has surrounded himself with positive thinking for 30 years, it's beginning to wear off.

"I told my wife today, that I do not think the world will recover. There's too much pain, David, am I alone? do your other listeners feel the same"

How about you? How do you handle a world filled with all of this tragedy?

Are you hopeful, negative?

What are you doing to try to stay positive? Is it working?

We need people to share what is working for them. Feel free to pass this blog on, to get people thinking, acting, in maybe a different way.

The callers to our show shared that they need to stay on top of their thoughts in order to make it through each day.

What would you recommend to help people who feel hopeless?

We need, the world needs, your input.

How to deal, with the " Monster ", within, you, me.

Yes, within everyone is a "Monster", running the show, made up of fears, insecurity, and more, that is absolutely holding us back in life.

As a matter of fact, for most if us this monster has been alive within so long that we are simply used to a dysfunctional co-existence!

Watch the short video below, as I share my own personal experience with this monster within.

Every Saturday, we offer more advice through our national radio show "David Essel Alive!" on XM Channel 168, streaming live at www.davidessel.com, from 6-9pm ET, 3-6pm PT, on how to deal with these monsters, and reclaim our lives.

Love, david

Fear of Failure: Is it stopping you? Read on to see.

FEAR OF FAILURE

Whenever I speak with or interview successful and exciting people, I always walk away with a sense of awe regarding their lack of fear in their pursuit of a worthy goal. Yet, I wonder if the fear of failure for most of us is the biggest obstacle in our attempt to live a life that is more fulfilling and joyful.

This fear of failing at any personal or professional endeavor can be so strong that we sit on the "sidelines" of life, watching other people playing their best game. The phrases "I wish I had their confidence . . . their life . . . their money . . . their relationships . . . their faith" continue to surface as we long for an existence that is full of energy and meaning. And yet, if we examine the road we've taken to get us to where we are today, I wonder if it is full of decisions that we've made to minimize the chance to fail rather than one in which we've tried to maximize the chances to be more successful. Do you see the immense difference here? People who are playing life "safe" are handcuffed, partially immobilized by the fear of how they may be judged by others if their quest doesn't turn out the way they had hoped. On the other hand, those who are trying to maximize their lives are looking for opportunities to excite them, stretch them, make them show up and take the exciting chances that life has to offer. And please don't confuse these people with blind risk takers. Quite the contrary. Many of these successful people are far from daredevils. Maybe their relationship is so strong because they chose someone based on an internal connection rather than choosing someone who others would approve of. They looked past race, color, religion, and chose someone they knew they could love at the deepest possible level.

Evaluate your life and determine today if your fear of failure is the one obstacle that you must learn to release so that the life of energy and joy you desire becomes reality.

Your Feelings Can Easily Mislead You! It's True.

Many people encourage us to always follow our feelings, but the truth is, that if we do this we can often be lead down the wrong path in life. Our feelings can easily mislead us.

Just because something, a decision, a person, does not "feel" right in the moment, did you know it could be your own fear or insecurity making those decisions, and not reality?

Watch this short video, and you'll see what I mean.

Yes, sometimes following our feelings is the right thing to do, but life is rarely black and white.

Slow down, share this with a friend.

Where is God Daily for You??

I went to the beach recently, and began to write about where God resides for me on a daily basis.

"Just over the molehill of fear, uncertainty, insecurity, jealousy, depression, pain and resentment is bliss. In both, all places, God resides, just waiting for us to call His name. "

Just after writing this, sitting on the cool beach, clouds as thick as lava, the sun breaks through. A sign? No, God Himself.

This video was designed for all of us to watch, slow down, and experience God everywhere.

Slow down. God is.

The Perils of Positive Thinking??

As it states in the religion/philosophy of Taoism, the opposites of life are needed for light to shine in the midst of the darkness, so yes, there are perils to those who try to fight anxiety, depression, lack etc. with the weapon of positive thinking alone.

Recently a client sat across from me perplexed as to why he was still in a state of anxiety regarding his finances, career and more when he had been reading, listening to and reciting line after line of positive affirmations for the past 30 days. When he saw no results, he decided to work with a life coach.

The power of positive thinking, affirmations, positive treatments, all have their place in life.

But so does deeply feeling the anguish of doubt, fear, loneliness.

Mother Teresa wrote about her anguish, and doubt in God at times.

President Lincoln is well known for his "dark nights of the soul."

Art Buchwald found relief from clinical depression only after admitting he needed to look into, not away from, his internal pain!

You and I are the same.

Do not "mask " your pain with positive thoughts, religion, or affirmations.....instead write about your anguish....feel it deeply for several minutes a day for a week, then follow those deep periods of pain with coaching, counseling, services, meetings and positive affirmations.

Slow down, feel all of the deep feelings that God gave you, that you might want to run from. They are there for a reason, not just to be shoved under a rug. If we try to cover them, we face the perils of positive thinking.

They just become worse. Not better. Ask Art, Mother Teresa in your meditations, or anyone else such as myself, who has experienced deep clinical depression, to find that the only way out is to stop running, and go deeper inside.

Relief, then, will come.
