ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER (ADD): Read This.

ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER (ADD)
— A Letter With A Different Perspective

The following letter was sent to us from Paul, a 28 year old male who may have more intuitive knowledge about this condition than most experts today. It doesn't mean that ADD is nonexistent, but like so many other "popular" conditions, it surely has to be over-hyped. We know our environment encourages us to act in certain ways and that the types of food, rest and exercise we get influences our behavior. The first step should be moving toward a whole foods/natural foods diet, eliminating sugar, caffeine, convenience foods, and additives like Nutrasweet. Check out the book mentioned by Breggin, as well as Ritalin Free Kids by Ullman, ADD: A Different Perspective by Hartman and Staying Healthy with Nutrition by Haas. Also, two great organizations to contact for information are The Option Institute (800-714-2779) and The Handle Institute (206-860-2665).

Dear David,

During a recent program, you were speaking with Peter R. Breggin, who wrote the book Talking Back to Ritalin and another book called Talking Back to Prozac. I have ordered the books for my mother and older sister to read. I am very concerned about my nephew (my sister's son) who is 13 and has been on Ritalin for a few years.

David, I'm confident that my nephew doesn't need this drug. I don't eve think he has ADD, but rather an easily frustrated mom with little patience and a diagnosis and treatment that are robbing him of his developmental growth. He is a lot like I was as a teenager. I'm 28 now, a musician and studio engineer/producer and extremely thankful for what I do. And, I can't live a life within the confines of a routine career. Some people can . . . I can't. So, I have run with that notion since I was a kid and explored many areas of things outside the "norm." I was always a good student, Dean's list all through college. I was involved in many extra curricular activities. You know the story . . artist, spontaneous, dare devil. Anyway, I was also a major challenge for my parents because I required a lot of stimuli to keep going. Without it I would channel that energy into just about anything, even trouble (which happened now and then). Still, I wasn't expecting anyone to PROVIDE me with the stimuli -- I just needed them to direct me, since I found stimuli everywhere around me in everything I saw. yes, I was a handful, but only in the sense that my parents had to be involved with me to keep me on a healthy path with my endeavors. My parents were able to keep me in line with true love and care (and a modest budget to boot!). I am so thankful for their guidance and their support. And most importantly, I'm most thankful that they didn't drug me with Ritalin or anything else. I probably deserved to be sedated from time to time (hah!), but we made it through.

My nephew is so much like me and this drug is poisoning him. One minute, he is the most excited, articulate kid, the next minute, after my sister forces the Ritalin on him (because he gets excited about something), he's a total zombie. I am crushed. And to make matters worse, she has two more beautiful young boys on the way up with similar, beautiful energy and I'm very afraid she'll take the same path with them instead of stepping up to the plate and providing them with the creative guidance they need. These boys have been blessed with remarkable brains full of great skill, and I want them to be able to develop it to its fullest potential.

ADVANCEMENT through SACRIFICE?

ADVANCEMENT THROUGH SACRIFICE

During a discussion recently, the topic regarding our need to follow our dreams came up. A woman had to decide if the challenge of working seven days a week for a twelve month period of time was worth the potential end result of creating the life and work she's always desired. Within one hour, the result from our caller survey was unanimous . . . 9 out of 10 people said it would be worth the risk. What about you? Would you be willing to commit to one year of this type of schedule to be doing what you've always wanted? Could you look at this situation creatively enough and devise a mental plan of attack where you could survive the demands of this type of a schedule? Realistically, what is 12 months of your life, if on average we live for 924 months?

I believe a lot of times we take the easier, "conforming" path in a life we forget just may be able to be filled with more excitement and joy if we are willing to make a few different sacrifices along the way. We fall victim to the belief that by doing what the "average" person would do is really the only way to play it. And I admit following your own journey and going after your dreams, which almost always means creating a nonconformist path, will ruffle a few feathers of those who want you to play it safe . . . be more normal. But the rewards in many cases are too great to pass up.

As an example, when we make the decision to go to school full-time and work full-time, we are able to create the confidence in ourselves that too few people seem to have, a confidence and exploration of our greatness that many never get a chance to experience. Breaking Through Our Creative Blocks for Success

During a recent lifestyle coaching session, one of my clients asked if we could discuss the various causes behind our "creative blocks" in life. Probably the most noted one is "writer's block," when we hit a wall in trying to create, begin, or finish anything from a homework assignment, speech, or actual literary project.

But these blocks can also arise with projects that pertain to music, art, or even trying to decide how to landscape our yard. The block many times will manifest itself as procrastination — with a seeming lack of creativity we put off finishing projects we are working on or find a thousand reasons why we don't even begin them.

While there may be many causes for creative block, I believe the most prolific ones have to do with : 1) a mental, physical, or spiritual fatigue; or 2) a self limiting judgment/belief that questions "who are we to be creative" . . . or "who are we to take this time for ourselves to . . .".
If we are fatigued mentally, physically, or spiritually, our ability to be creative diminishes greatly. Creativity needs to come from a place that is well nourished, a mind that is relaxed, open and intuitive, a body that is rested and well fed, and a spiritual foundation that is supported by daily prayer, meditation, and gratitude. If you personally hit a creative block, evaluate yourself against these three criteria and make the changes necessary. I'd even recommend putting a project off if possible for a few days so that you can focus on nourishing your mind, body, and spirit. Creativity will then begin to flow naturally.

The second major cause of these creative blocks has to do with our own self-limiting judgments or beliefs. The thought may arise . . . "Who am I to think I'm creative enough to write for that magazine, to direct the school play, or to speak to this group." This judgment can easily stop us cold and present a block in the form of procrastination. Or we may struggle with the belief that it is selfish for us to take time away from other responsibilities (family, friends, etc.) to go after our dreams. "Who do I think I am spending this hour writing or playing the piano when I should be . . .".

These conscious and subconscious thoughts easily derail us from pursuing our goals, blocking creativity, and create the perfect opportunity to procrastinate. What we forget to realize is that if we are pursuing dreams and goals that nurture our own purpose here, we'll actually bring more zest, vitality and love to those around us.

We can only lose if we submerge our true passions.
Create the space to nurture your essence and to release these self-limiting judgments. It is at this place that creativity will flow non-stop.

Slow down to release any and all creative blocks today.

Media distractions to avoid as a Real Estate Professional

If you truly want to get ahead as a real estate professional, or anyone in commission sales for that matter, you'll have to be aware of the media distractions that can pull you off course in your quest for success.

Now, what I'm about to share will seem outrageous to some, and make complete common sense to others. If it bothers you, do it anyway, and watch your focus and productivity increase dramatically.

For the most part, TV, newspapers and radio news clips are created to sensationalize the negativity in our world. If you're an avid viewer, reader or listener of the news, I can almost guarantee that you are far from reaching your potential in business, and further away from making the money you want to make.

Pretty bold statement to some, common knowledge to others.

If you really want to maximize your potential in this field, I'm going to ask you to take a 14 day hiatus from ALL media. Yes, ALL media.

No news of any type, no garbage into your brain that saps you of energy and creativity. Instead, fill this time with motivational Cd's, DVDs, and books.

Do you think you can do it?

I will guarantee that if you follow this simple plan, you'll find a major shift in your attitude over this very short period of time. Now, you may get anxious, even irritable, as you miss your daily dose of negativity, as it truly can become an addiction. But I know from working with hundreds of agents over the past many years, that every single one of them were shocked at how their productivity increased so dramatically when they removed the negative media from their lives.

Do you really need another mention of the state of our economy? Or how the real estate market is still so slow? Don't you realize that if something truly remarkable occurs, you'll find out about it from someone else?

Slow down, remove the media distractions starting today to maximize your potential in the world of real estate.

A Powerful Way to Ehance Your Creativity: Remove All Tv/Radio

One of the most powerful ways to enhance your creativity is to create more quiet space in order to allow yourself to think , and reflect, on a daily basis.

While this may sound like common sense, how many of us truly do it regularly?

I recommended to several of my clients that they take a 14 day "vacation" from all forms of media...television, radio, magazines and newspapers.

While driving in the car, complete silence. No music or even motivational Cd's were allowed.

For the first 4 days, each of them recorded the same uneasy emotions in their journals. "Impatience, frustration, and quick to anger " were just a few of the feelings that surfaced. They all said at day 3 that they were ready to give up this ridiculous exercise.

But then the most amazing thing happened.

On day 4 for all of them, they went to this incredible creative space. One single mom ,became so inspired by her free quiet time that she wrote a complete book in 11 days!

Another created a majestic painting of 2 people in a divine embrace, using artistic talent that had been in hibernation for years.

And a third , a very well known psychotherapist, found himself awakening at all hours of the nite with inspiring additions to his new books that had been blocked prior to this "media free" experiment.

When we remove the distractions that we are used to using on a daily basis, our true creative juices can become unlocked, leading as you've seen here to some amazing end results.

You too can enhance your own creativity, and experience the same remarkable breakthroughs for your business, health or relationships, if you just give yourself the quiet time you deserve.

Fourteen days of freedom from all forms of media is all it takes to create your new pathway to success.

The New Economy....Get Creative

We are entrenched in a new economy that is demanding of us a new, higher level of creativity if we still want to be successful in life.

It's not better than, or worse than, any other time in our lives. It's just different.

What makes it good...or bad...or hellish as many people are griping right now, is the way you are looking at it.

Yes, perception is reality.

If you want to stew in negativity, stay glued to the news.

If you want to be prosperous, and more at peace, look at these times as an opportunity to get your creative juices flowing.

Create new partnerships with other people and companies.

Offer an even greater amount of service to existing and new clients.

Demand of yourself more...more attention...more love for others...go to a whole new level of living, not just for money, but for the joy of being alive.

When we are creative, either by choice or because the worlds landscape is changing around us, we automatically rise to a new level of existence.

Slow Down.

Take a big breath, and reach out to others.

Ask for help, and offer assistance.

And realize your life is created by you, your thoughts, your beliefs.

If you don't like what you see, be the catalyst to change. No one else can do it for you.

Oh, and turn off the news.

"Not Enough Time in a Day?".. An Illusion

The reality behind most of our statements that we do not have enough time in the day to do all that we want to do is as far from the reality as you could possibly imagine. As a matter of fact, this statement is actually an illusion.

By making this statement, we are actually giving ourselves a way out of having to be creative ...creative with our time management. I mean after all, if we have an excuse, like "I don't have enough time", why change? Why ask for help?

A former client of mine came to me with this often used excuse as to the reason she was not happy in her life. " As a single mom working 60 hours a week, there's no way that I will ever have enough time for me...to do anything that's fun until the girls are 18 and out of the door."

You can imagine the response she gave me when I told her that what she was saying was an illusion, a handy one at that.

She had spent so much time telling people and herself that she had no time, that she actually believed her own words!

When we did a time recall sheet, and found out that she actually had several hours of free time that she wasted each nite on reality TV shows, her whole life began to change.

These hours soon became her time to play piano, something she had loved doing for years, but stopped after her divorce. just this one change proved to her that if she really wanted to prioritize her time, she could live a fabulous life, one that started today, not when her little girls we grown and gone.

Lack of time is an illusion, a game we play, and to our own detriment.

Slow down, and create the time you need now to find the joy that might be missing from your life.
